NLMA is a music-teaching centre founded in 2010 by a music graduate, Harriette Hale. Enjoying a prime position in Camden, it teaches singing and just about every instrument, to a wide range of students between 3 and 65 plus years of age. There are currently around 400 clients and the sales turnover in the last financial year was just under £202,000 with the first profitable result.

Inspiring the next generation of musicians

The centre is of very high decorative order, has 4 very spacious floors, is very well equipped and employs around 25 high-grade music teachers. It also carries out preparation for music exams. Finally, it is considered as a highly professional music academy.

THE PEOPLE

Harriette has only one full time employee but is currently looking to enlarge that number: the academy needs another administrator and a music manager (a person for this role has already been identified). The rest are all self-employed musicians. The teachers can all teach up to degree standard and Harriette enjoys a good relationship with them all.

SERVICES

Current Services:

Teaching music – by far the major source of income,
Renting out the top floor to dancing classes,
Selling NLMA branded clothing (onsite).

Future Services:

Home tuition,
Online tuition,
Recording label,
Second and subsequent centres.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

1. To maximise the income from current services,
2. To develop new complementary services and thus enlarge the scope of her client base,
3. To maintain high levels of music tuition via top quality instruments and teaching in order to achieve high results for her students.

The priority to achieve these goals is to adopt a strategy based on highly effective marketing and branding. Indeed, by creating awareness among the crowd, the academy hopes to attract more potential customers and to become a reference in London. Then, increased demand will lead to higher numbers and prices, which will boost profits. In this context, future plans become far more realistic and economically justified. The marketing that Harriette has been carrying out with the marketing agency NABO has clearly demonstrated the effect that it has on new recruits and she is very confident that the marketing programs will boost the student numbers by around 35% in year one. Finally, with other sources of income going well, Harriette strongly believes that there will be a significant increase in revenue from just over £200,000 to £300,000.
