The Coconut Tree are a “youthful and authentic, cool and energetic” award-winning restaurant group, bringing flavoursome Sri Lankan street food and “cocotails” to the UK. Launching in Cheltenham in 2016, they have successfully opened five more sites, in Bristol, Bournemouth, Cardiff and Oxford and are ready to add a seventh! With the funds raised, they are looking to furbish and open their next site, with some potential properties already in the mix.

Bringing Sri Lankan street food to the UK.

The Coconut Tree is more than just a bar and restaurant to us. We are a family. In 2016, we started out as a group of friends with a passion for Sri Lankan street food. We managed to attain a lease for a bar and kitchen on St Paul’s Road, Cheltenham and renovated it ourselves while still working our full-time jobs. With some late nights and long weekends, The Coconut Tree was born.

We aim to deliver the best Sri Lankan street food and sweet and fiery “Cocotails” served with warm hospitality, in a stripped-back ‘street style’ interior with great tunes. Authenticity is at our heart, with our signature ‘Cocotails’ served in ceramics made in Sri Lanka and some concocted with a Sri Lankan spirit made from coconut flower nectar. We’re super chuffed with the level of support, awards and accolades we have received since those early days, including Soglos’ 2018 Best Restaurant Bar In Gloucestershire and recently Best New Bristol Business, at the Bristol Life Awards 2019/20. We’re even in The Lonely Planet!

Since 2016 we have successfully opened another five popular restaurants in Bristol, Cardiff, Bournemouth and Oxford and now have our sights set on opening our seventh! We are in the process of assessing potential properties and are raising funds to furbish and open the new restaurant. We hope you can join us for a fiery Cocotail and hopper!
